THE MANDALORIAN & GROGU will be the next STAR WARS movie released in theatres, and it will feature the big-screen debuts of two of the most popular new Star Wars characters to arrive in a long time.

Leaping off from the streaming series "The Mandalorian," this movie will continue the story of the armored title character and the little green Grogu, still affectionately known as Baby Yoda. We expect the movie to dramatically expand the scope of that already epic series. Here's everything you need to know about THE MANDALORIAN & GROGU.

What's the Mandalorian & Grogu Release Date?

Disney and Lucasfilm will release THE MANDALORIAN & GROGU on May 22, 2026. The first announcement about the movie said that it would "lead Lucasfilm’s ongoing feature-development slate," and the studio followed through by setting the movie for the first of multiple planned Star Wars theatrical openings.

Is There a Trailer for The Mandalorian & Grogu?

There is no trailer for THE MANDALORIAN & GROGU right now, but footage has been shown at multiple D23 events in the last half of 2024. So we might see a trailer soon!

In early December 2024, Lucasfilm's Chief Creative Officer Dave Filoni confirmed that THE MANDALORIAN & GROGU had finished filming, after beginning production in August 2024. There's still a lot of work to do on the movie, but we know it is moving forward.

Who's in The Mandalorian & Grogu Cast?

As expected, THE MANDALORIAN & GROGU star Pedro Pascal returns to play the title role, and his compatriot, Grogu, will appear thanks to the same combination of animatronics, puppetry, and digital effects that brought the little guy to life for the streaming series.

Sigourney Weaver has a major role, too. Jeremy Allen White ("The Bear") voices the CG character Rotta the Hutt, who is the son of Jabba the Hutt. And Jonny Coyne ("The Blacklist" ) appears as a warlord who leads a pack of Galactic Empire holdover forces, reprising his small role from an episode of the series.

We expect characters from other movies and shows to appear, too. The "Star Wars Rebels" character Garazeb "Zeb" Orrelios appears, for example, but we don't know if voice actor Steve Blum reprises the role.

What's the Plot of The Mandalorian & Grogu?

As with so many other aspects of the movie, THE MANDALORIAN & GROGU plot has yet to be revealed. Will it follow the third season of "The Mandalorian," which aired in Spring 2023? Probably! But we don't know for certain.

Furthermore, we know that scripts were written for a fourth season of the streaming series prior to the dual strikes that shut down much film and TV production in 2023. Does THE MANDALORIAN & GROGU movie take the place of "The Mandalorian" season 4? That seems to be the case, but we don't know if a fourth season might eventually follow the release of the movie.

Who Is Directing The Mandalorian & Grogu?

Jon Favreau is directing THE MANDALORIAN & GROGU. He created the series and has written most of the scripts for the show's three seasons. For the movie, Favreau is co-writing with Dave Filoni, who has been the architect of much of the Star Wars storytelling in various streaming series over the last few years.

Beyond those two names, Lucasfilm has yet to reveal more collaborators for the movie. Ludwig Göransson, for example, scored the show's first two seasons, with Joseph Shirley stepping in to score the third season. Will either of them score the movie? We'll find out!

If nothing else, we can reliably expect that THE MANDALORIAN & GROGU will offer visual spectacle on a large canvas, enabled by the most cutting-edge production techniques and effects that Lucasfilm and effects house Industrial Light & Magic (ILM) can offer.

We'll tell you more about THE MANDALORIAN & GROGU soon.
