(Updated 12/04/2024)Disney's Snow White | Cinemark

Disney's live-action slate adapted from classic animated movies continues with DISNEY'S SNOW WHITE, coming in 2025. The movie jumps off from the 1937 animated movie SNOW WHITE AND THE SEVEN DWARFS, the first animated movie from Disney.

Rachel Zegler (WEST SIDE STORY) stars in DISNEY'S SNOW WHITE. The movie has a script from the writer of one of the biggest hits in recent memory, features Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen, and introduces new songs to the classic story. The first full trailer is out now; check it out below and read more about DISNEY'S SNOW WHITE.

When Does Disney's Snow White Come Out?

Disney will release SNOW WHITE in movie theaters on March 21, 2025.

Watch the First Full Trailer for Disney's Snow White

This first full trailer for DISNEY'S SNOW WHITE gives you a little taste of everything about the movie: Rachel Zegler as Snow White, the look and behavior of the dwarfs, Gal Gadot's take on the Evil Queen, and even a small preview of the music.

This movie looks like it even has a bit of HUNGER GAMES energy, which is interesting mostly because Rachel Zegler starred in the recent prequel to that series, THE HUNGER GAMES: THE BALLAD OF SONGBIRDS AND SNAKES. This movie was actually filmed before BALLAD, however!

Is the New Snow White a Musical?

The live-action SNOW WHITE is a musical. Songs from the animated original movie, written by Frank Churchill and Larry Morey, will be performed. The only one we know for certain is "Whistle While You Work," but expect others to be confirmed soon.

There will be new tunes as well, by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, who also contributed new songs to the 2019 version of ALADDIN.

Snow White Is Co-Written By Barbie's Greta Gerwig

When this SNOW WHITE went into development in 2016, the script was written by playwright and screenwriter Erin Cressida Wilson (SECRETARY, THE GIRL ON THE TRAIN). In 2021, Greta Gerwig was announced as the co-writer. Now, given the incredible popularity of Gerwig's BARBIE, we're eager to see the degree to which her voice is present in the SNOW WHITE script.

Who Directed Snow White?

Marc Webb, best known at this point for his indie hit (500) DAYS OF SUMMER and THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN, starring Andrew Garfield, directs the new live-action SNOW WHITE. Webb was hired in 2019.

While the original plan was to film SNOW WHITE in 2020, that was delayed due to Covid. The bulk of the movie went before cameras in 2022, with principal photography being completed in July 2022. There are still some reshoots and extra photography to complete, and that work has been delayed by the actor's strike, which is still ongoing.

Who Else Is in the Snow White Cast?

In addition to star Rachel Zegler, SNOW WHITE features Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen, and Andrew Burnap as Jonathan, who is the Prince in this telling. While we don't know all the Dwarf players yet, Martin Klebba has been cast as Grumpy. Ansu Kabia, meanwhile, plays the Huntsman. We'll have a lot more to report in the months to come!

Director Marc Webb recently told Variety that Zegler "has an inherent grace, poise and goodness that reminds me so much of what is essential to Snow White."

A New Meaning Behind the Snow White Name

Since Rachel Zegler is Colombian, there has been some conversation about her starring as a character who is described as having "skin as white as snow." Zegler revealed to Variety that her character's name has a slightly different backstory in the new movie.

"It fell back to another version of ‘Snow White’ that was told in history," she said, "where she survived a snowstorm that occurred when she was a baby. And so the king and queen decided to name her Snow White to remind her of her resilience. One of the core points in our film for any young woman or young person is remembering how strong you actually are."

SNOW WHITE opens on March 21, 2025.
