For a long time, Hugh Grant was thought of as the star of romantic comedies and dramas. With good reason! Movies like FOUR WEDDINGS AND A FUNERAL and NOTTING HILL established Grant as a very appealing leading man with a strong flair for comedy.

Over the last decade, Grant has expanded his choice of roles, playing guys who aren't exactly romantic ideals. He was a grand bad guy in PADDINGTON 2, a man of questionable moral character in the series "The Undoing," a fantasy antagonist in DUNGEONS & DRAGONS, and the list could go on.

Now, HERETIC features Grant in a deliciously villainous role. We don't know exactly what is up with Mr. Reed, but as the HERETIC trailer shows, we definitely don't want first-hand knowledge of his puzzles, much less his home. Check out that trailer and learn more about HERETIC here.

What's the Heretic Release Date?

A24 will release HERETIC in movie theaters on November 8, 2024.

Watch the New Heretic Trailer

The final trailer for HERETIC sets up the movie's story, obviously, and it teases a lot of details about the trials and traps faced by the two main characters. But it also does a really good job of not showing anything too specific. You'll feel like you have a good sense of what the movie is all about without the sense that everything has been revealed already.

Who's in the Cast of Heretic?

The cast of HERETIC is pretty compact, since most of the movie appears to orient around two young women, played by Sophie Thatcher of "Yellowjackets" and Chloe East of THE FABELMANS, as they attempt a Mormon missionary visit to the home of Mr. Reed (Hugh Grant).

Topher Grace is credited as playing a Mormon elder, but beyond that there may not be too many additional revelations. All of which means that as the three core players, Thatcher, East, and Grant get most of the movie's runtime to themselves.

Heretic Comes From the Writers of A Quiet Place

HERETIC's writer/directors, Scott Beck and Bryan Woods have been making films since college. They earned some fame for writing A QUIET PLACE, which turned into a huge hit for Paramount. More recently, they wrote and executive produced the horror movie THE BOOGEYMAN, which also starred Sophie Thatcher.

HERETIC opens on November 8.
